Phosphate and Food Security

Phosphate rock is one of the most critical raw materials on earth. As the primary source of phosphorus, it is an essential ingredient in the fertilisers that underpin modern agriculture and global food production. Without an adequate supply of phosphate, crop yields decline, soils become depleted, and the world's ability to feed a growing population is put at risk. For an agricultural nation like Australia, securing a reliable, sovereign source of phosphate is not simply a commercial opportunity — it is a matter of national resilience and food security.

Historically, Australia has relied heavily on imported phosphate, exposing domestic farmers to volatile global prices, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical risk. The vast majority of the world's phosphate reserves are concentrated in a small number of countries, meaning that any disruption to international trade can have an immediate impact on Australian agriculture. North West Phosphate is working to change this dynamic by developing Queensland's North West Minerals Province into a significant, domestically controlled source of high-grade phosphate rock.

A JORC-Compliant Resource

North West Phosphate holds a JORC-compliant resource of over 436 million tonnes of phosphate across its tenements, making it one of the most significant phosphate resources in Australia. The JORC Code (Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves) is the internationally recognised standard for reporting mineral resources, providing investors, regulators and the public with confidence in the quality and integrity of resource estimates. By adhering to the JORC standard, North West Phosphate ensures its resource estimates are transparent, comparable and reliable.

Sovereign Supply for Australian Agriculture

Beyond fertiliser, phosphate is a vital input for a range of industrial and agricultural applications, including animal feed supplements, food preservation and chemical manufacturing. Developing a domestic phosphate industry delivers broad economic benefits — creating regional jobs, generating royalties, and strengthening Queensland's position as a resources powerhouse. Equally important, it reduces Australia's dependence on imported critical inputs and supports a more resilient, self-sufficient agricultural supply chain.

North West Phosphate is committed to developing its resources responsibly — working alongside landholders, Traditional Owners and local communities to ensure the benefits of the project are shared broadly and endure for generations. Through disciplined exploration, rigorous environmental management and strong stakeholder partnerships, the company is advancing one of the most important resource opportunities in the country, with the goal of securing a stable, sustainable phosphate supply for Australia's future.
